Danny Johnson used the Motherwell programme to reveal that he is at Fir Park to make a name for himself and his last gasp equaliser against Celtic will certainly ensure he was noticed. The 25-year-old has had a nomadic existence as he has worked his way through the leagues and his time at Motherwell is about trying to find his place.

“If you look back early in my career I’ve had knock-back after knock-back, clubs saying: “No, he’s never going to do it,” so I’ve got a lot of people to prove wrong,” he explained.I “I spoke with the gaffer and he said: “Come and prove yourself”. “I took a little inspiration from Lewis Moore, what he did here, coming from the same league. That’s what I want to do, be similar to him and then kick on and make a name for myself. “I’ve scored against the top three from last season now, so I’ve proved I can do it. If I’m playing, I’m going to score.’

“Earlier on in the season I got my chance but there’s a lot more to my game I have to work on, not just my finishing, so he had a quiet word with me. I had to bide my time in training, work hard and get back in that team to show what I’ve been working on, keep scoring my goals.” Brendan Rodgers was irked that Johnson was able to score despite the tightness of the angle but striker was adamant he knew exactly where he wanted to put the ball. “I only need one chance really, if you give me half a yard I’m gonna finish it, get a shot at goal in. I’ve worked that yard, hit it across goal and it’s gone in off the post,” he said.

“It was the only angle I had left really. I know if you hit it across with some power from that distance that the keeper’s got to get down quickly, and if you use your angles right it goes in off the post.”
